Summer Brief

BA (Hons.) GRAPHIC DESIGN
LEVEL 05
BRIEF TITLE
SUMMER BRIEF: WHAT INTERESTS ME?

The Brief

Good design begins with a good understanding of a subject. With that in mind, you will prepare a body of research over the summer that you will present to the class in a workshop at the start of the academic year. You will also need to show your research on your blog.

Initially, you will research into three things that interest you that are appropriate to graphic design – a hobby/interest, an invention/discovery and a person/place. You may choose to research into three ideas from one of these categories (for example, three hobbies), or you may choose to research into an idea from each category. This initial list of three will then focus your research down into one thing that really interests you, and that one thing will be what your presentation is about.

Whatever you choose to focus on, we want to know everything about it – facts, history, why you think your subject is interesting and what other target audiences exist for it. Make your presentation interesting visually; if it helps to bring in physical examples or items to help your presentation, please make sure you do so.

In addition to this presentation, you need to write a “To Do” list for the forthcoming year. What skills and processes do you want to try? What would you like to improve upon? What interests you as a graphic designer that you want to learn? This is an opportunity to take control of your future and put strategies in place that will help you to establish and achieve your goals – whatever they are.

One of the subjects that i am going to research into is TRAINERS

After the presentation we got given feedback from our groups this was my feedback:
-Broad Research from past to modern day, Good reference to Graphic Design industry today, Good ideas on how to progress
-Good knowledge of the history of the topic, Good link to packaging, Smooth transition between topics, Could have researched package designers and shown more designs you like.
-very well researched, can see apparent interest, might benefit from speaking more time looking at more cement design as oppose to the history, good visuals and well explained, Try to avoid reading off the screen
-Could speak louder, could have mor epictures and less words, good knowledge on the history, Interesting facts and relaxation to graphic design.
-Large knowledge on subject, especially the history of trainers, good link from trainers to the packaging , could look further into how a specific shoe box is made if you were to take it forward
-Try to speak louder, Lots of info on the history of trainers, Have a look into the actual designing of the shoes? Research into more brands than Nike and se how they differ
-Great research ! You have got a great idea to go with, get lost in it and enjoy
-Good in death knowledge on history, Good progression to more focused subject.

We then had to decide as to which feedback fit into these categories
1. What is specific enough is useful
2. What is the stuff you wanna hear, boosts your ego
3. Any other types of feedback

Set 3 objectives that will improve your summer brief
-Research into other brands of shoes
-Look more thoroughly into packaging design and designers
-Design my own shoebox from the research i have found
